St Annes hospital, Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust

The adult inpatient mental health at St Ann’s Hospital in Poole underwent a full refurbishment in 2017.

The 6 bed Alumhurst Ward for older persons is part of a continuous development scheme at the St Ann’s Hospital site that Dorset Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have been carrying out for the last 2 years. This modern facility has taken advantage of technological advancements that allow them to care for service users in the best way possible.

The locking system was a card operated access control system to allow maximum flexibility for the patients, Kingsway Group provided the KG240 electric strike in the unique KG245 strike housing which was connected to the central control display.

The access control system allows all staff doors to be operated quickly and efficiently, whilst the use of the anti-barricade Swing doorsets ensure easy access to all bedrooms, and a fast and safe means of overcoming barricade situations.

Alumhurst Ward is the first facility to receive our new KG171 Clinic Room Hatch which incorporates a privacy vision panel; the first fire rated access hatch that facilitates the use of a vision panel on the same door.

The en-suite doors on this project are a showcase of our collaboration with the main contractors, Brymor Construction. The shape of the en-suites within the bedrooms was utilised to give way to some excellent craftsmanship, with the use of the Stow secondary frame to provide a lock-back facility for the en-suite doors to allow the staff to manage the use of these doors.
